He made his international debut in 1999 against Sri Lanka, quickly establishing himself as a key member of the Indian bowling attack. While plagued by injuries throughout his career, Nehra consistently demonstrated resilience and a fighting spirit, making numerous comebacks to represent his country.

Nehra was an integral part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
