Crafty Leftarm Pacer, Delivering Matchwinning Spells With Experience
Ashish Nehra, a former Indian cricketer, carved a niche for himself as a leftarm fast bowler known for his deceptive pace and ability to swing the ball. Born on April 29, 1979, in Delhi, Nehra's cricketing journey began in the late 1990s. He made his international debut in 1999 against Sri Lanka, quickly establishing himself as a key member of the Indian bowling attack. While plagued by injuries throughout his career, Nehra consistently demonstrated resilience and a fighting spirit, making numerous comebacks to represent his country.
Nehra was an integral part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa. His remarkable performance in the tournament, particularly his spell against England where he took 6 wickets for 23 runs, remains etched in the memories of cricket fans. Despite the emergence of new talent, Nehra continued to contribute to Indian cricket, showcasing his experience and skill in both Test and One Day International (ODI) formats.
In the latter part of his career, Nehra embraced the T20 format, becoming a valuable asset in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He played for various franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, sharing his expertise with younger players. His contributions to the Sunrisers Hyderabad team that won the IPL title in 2016 were particularly noteworthy.
Ashish Nehra retired from all forms of cricket on November 1, 2017, at his home ground in Delhi. Following his retirement, he transitioned into coaching, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of cricketers. He has served as a coach for various teams, including the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, further solidifying his legacy within Indian cricket. He is currently the head coach of Gujrat Titans.
