Barindera Ghosh, also known as Barindra Kumar Ghose, was a prominent Indian revolutionary and journalist, born in London on January 5, 1880. He hailed from a distinguished family; his father, Dr. Krishna Dhan Ghose, was a physician, and his elder brother was the renowned philosopher and nationalist, Sri Aurobindo. Barindera's early education took place in Deoghar, and he later attended Patna College. However, he abandoned his studies to dedicate himself to the cause of Indian independence. He was deeply influenced by the writings of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and Swami Vivekananda, which ignited his patriotic fervor.


Barindera Ghosh played a crucial role in establishing secret revolutionary societies in Bengal, aiming to overthrow British rule through armed struggle. In 1902, he joined the Anushilan Samiti, a revolutionary organization. He actively recruited young men and trained them in weaponry and guerilla warfare. In 1906, along with Bhupendranath Datta, he founded the Jugantar, a Bengali weekly newspaper that advocated for revolutionary activities and inspired many to join the freedom movement. The Jugantar Patrika became a powerful voice for Indian nationalism.


His revolutionary activities culminated in the attempt to assassinate Douglas Kingsford, the district magistrate of Muzaffarpur, in 1908. Although the assassination attempt failed, it led to the arrest of Barindera Ghosh and other members of the Jugantar group. He was tried in the Alipore Bomb Case and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Cellular Jail in the Andaman Islands.


After serving his sentence, Barindera Ghosh returned to India and embraced a more spiritual path. He later worked as a journalist and writer, contributing to various newspapers and magazines. He passed away on April 18, 1959, leaving behind a legacy as a courageous freedom fighter and a key figure in the Indian independence movement.
