Basanta Biswas was a revolutionary figure in the Indian independence movement, known for his daring acts of defiance against British colonial rule. While details surrounding his early life remain somewhat scarce, he emerged as a prominent member of the Jugantar group, a revolutionary organization advocating for India's liberation through armed struggle. Biswas's involvement in the movement solidified under the influence of Rash Behari Bose, a key leader who orchestrated several audacious attacks against the British Raj. He became deeply involved in revolutionary activities at a young age, displaying remarkable courage and commitment to the cause of Indian independence.

His most significant act was his participation in the bombing of Lord Hardinge, the then Viceroy of India, in Delhi in 1912. Despite the meticulous planning, the assassination attempt did not succeed in killing Hardinge, though he was injured. Biswas, entrusted with carrying out the bombing, successfully executed his part of the plan, throwing the bomb at the viceroy's procession. Following the incident, Biswas went into hiding, evading capture for a considerable period. However, he was eventually apprehended and brought to trial for his role in the bombing. The trial garnered significant attention, with Biswas becoming a symbol of resistance against British rule. Ultimately, he was convicted and sentenced to death. He was executed by hanging in 1915 at the young age of 20.
