Bina Das was an Indian revolutionary and nationalist, known for her courageous act of defiance against British colonial rule. Born in 1911 in Bengal, she came from a family deeply involved in nationalist activities, which significantly shaped her political views and commitment to India's independence. Das was educated at Bethune College, Calcutta, where she became actively involved in student movements and revolutionary groups. Her involvement in these circles led her to plan and execute an assassination attempt on the Bengal Governor, Stanley Jackson, in 1932, during a convocation ceremony at the University of Calcutta. Although her attempt was unsuccessful, it made her a symbol of resistance against British oppression and inspired many young Indians to join the freedom movement.

Following the assassination attempt, Bina Das was arrested and sentenced to nine years of rigorous imprisonment. Despite the harsh conditions of prison life, she remained steadfast in her beliefs and continued to advocate for India's independence. After her release in 1939, she became actively involved in the Indian National Congress and continued her political activities. During the Quit India Movement in 1942, she was arrested again and imprisoned for three years. After India gained independence in 1947, Das dedicated her life to social work, focusing on helping the underprivileged and marginalized communities. She also played a role in the Bengal Legislative Assembly. Bina Das's life was marked by unwavering dedication to her country and a fearless spirit in the face of injustice. She passed away in 1986, leaving behind a legacy as a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement.
