Chettur Sankaran Nair, often referred to as Chettur Nair, was a prominent figure in Indian history, renowned for his contributions to law, politics, and social reform. Born in 1857 in Mankara, Malabar District, British India (presentday Kerala, India), he received his early education locally before pursuing higher studies in Madras (now Chennai). He qualified as a lawyer and quickly established a successful legal practice, gaining recognition for his sharp intellect and advocacy skills.

Nair's involvement in the Indian National Congress marked the beginning of his political career. He actively participated in the freedom movement, advocating for greater selfgovernance and social justice. His commitment to reform extended beyond politics; he was a staunch advocate for women's education and empowerment, challenging prevailing social norms and customs. He served as the President of the Indian National Congress in 1897, a testament to his leadership and influence within the organization.
