Daulat Kothari - A Lifestory
Pioneering Science, Shaping Minds, Inspiring India

A great leader in Indian science and education, this person left a big mark on the country's learning. Their work over many years greatly changed India's science and higher education. Born in 1906, their early life prepared them for what was to come. They studied hard, getting a doctorate from Cambridge University. Their skill in theoretical physics, especially astrophysics, quickly became wellknown. Their impact went beyond just schools. They helped start many important places, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, which opened in 1959. Their help in the early years of these places was very important. They also helped shape India's science plans, giving the government advice on key issues. A friend once said they were "a visionary leader, whose guidance inspired generations of scientists." This perfectly shows their effect on the science world. Their research on stars and white dwarf stars made them famous worldwide. Besides science, they cared deeply about education. They believed knowledge could change lives, and they worked hard to improve India's education system. They led the University Grants Commission and later the Planning Commission's Education Committee. Their story still inspires scientists and teachers. They died in 1993, leaving a great legacy of science and education.
