Leading at Outpost (OP) Sirijap 1, while being attacked again and again, is something people still talk about. Coworkers recall this person by saying, "This Major was inspiring, like a strong support during a difficult time." This person and the team, with fewer people and under heavy fire, fought off many attacks. Even after the enemy took over the outpost, the person kept fighting. What happened on 20 October 1962 made this person famous in Indian military history. Because of these actions, this person received the Param Vir Chakra, India's top award for bravery.
