Dharmendra Pradhan is a prominent Indian politician, currently serving as the Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the Government of India. Born on June 26, 1969, in Talcher, Odisha, he hails from a family deeply rooted in politics. His father, Debendra Pradhan, was a Union Minister of State in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, which instilled in him an early understanding of public service. Dharmendra Pradhan began his political journey as an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activist, demonstrating leadership qualities from his student days. He holds a Master's degree in Anthropology from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

Pradhan's career trajectory reflects a steady rise through the ranks of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Odisha from 2000 to 2004. Subsequently, he was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, representing the Deogarh constituency in Odisha in 2004. His parliamentary experience further solidified his understanding of national issues and governance.

A significant turning point in his career came with his appointment as a Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas in 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was later elevated to Cabinet Minister in 2017, holding the same portfolio. During his tenure as the Petroleum Minister, Pradhan played a pivotal role in implementing key government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which aimed to provide clean cooking fuel to women from underprivileged households. He also oversaw significant reforms in the oil and gas sector, contributing to India's energy security. In 2021, he was entrusted with the crucial portfolios of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, reflecting the government's focus on human capital development. As Education Minister, he is responsible for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a transformative initiative designed to revamp India's education system.
