Dilip Doshi was a leftarm orthodox spinner who represented India in Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket. Born in Rajkot, Gujarat, Doshi began his firstclass career relatively late, making his debut at the age of 22. Despite the delayed start, his talent and dedication quickly shone through, earning him a place in the national side. He made his Test debut for India in 1979 against Australia, immediately making an impact with his accurate bowling and ability to generate spin.

Doshi became a vital part of the Indian spin quartet of the late 1970s and early 1980s, alongside the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, and Bhagwat Chandrasekhar. While he may have played fewer matches than his more established counterparts, Doshi consistently proved his worth with his economical bowling and crucial wickets. He possessed excellent control over his line and length, making him a difficult bowler to score against, particularly on spinfriendly Indian pitches.

Throughout his international career, Doshi played in 33 Test matches, taking 114 wickets at an average of just over 30. He also represented India in 15 ODIs, claiming 22 wickets. Although his ODI career was relatively short, he remained a valuable asset to the team. Doshi's contributions extended beyond statistics; his experience and tactical awareness were highly valued by his captains.

After retiring from international cricket, Doshi remained involved in the sport, taking on roles in coaching and administration. He has also been a commentator and analyst, sharing his insights on the game.
