Born in 1886 in the princely state of Pudukkottai, she defied societal norms and pursued higher education, eventually becoming one of the first female doctors in India. Her medical career began at the Government Maternity Hospital in Madras, where she witnessed firsthand the plight of women and children suffering from preventable diseases and social injustices. This experience fueled her determination to address these issues through both medical practice and social activism.

Driven by a deep commitment to improving the lives of women, Dr. Reddi dedicated herself to eradicating harmful customs such as child marriage and the devadasi system. She played a pivotal role in the abolition of the devadasi system in the Madras Presidency, advocating tirelessly for legislation that criminalized the practice and provided rehabilitation for the women involved. Furthermore, she championed education for girls and women, believing it to be the key to empowerment and social progress. She became the first woman legislator in British India, serving as a member of the Madras Legislative Council.
