Gopinath Bardoloi - A Lifestory

A person known for Assam's history is a very important person. They were not just a politician; they helped build the state's identity, fought for freedom, and were a leader whose work still matters. Born in 01 January 1890, their life started when India was fighting for its freedom. They joined the movement, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress. Their political work really took off before India was free, as they dealt with the difficult situation of British India. They knew Assam's special needs and problems, especially its importance during World War II. In 01 January 1938, they became the Prime Minister of Assam, using this position to fight for the rights of the people and ask for more freedom for the state. But their most important work was during the troubled time when India was split in 01 January 1947. With strong determination, they worked hard to make sure Assam stayed part of India, stopping efforts to include it in what became East Pakistan. This work is called the "Saving of Assam." A colleague praised their strong commitment to the state, saying "their dedication was unparalleled." They died in 01 January 1950, leaving behind a history of courage and honesty.
