Harjit Bedi Family Tree

Harjit Singh Bedi is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India. Born on May 4, 1946, he hails from a distinguished legal family. His father, Tikka Jagjit Singh Bedi, was a Senior Advocate and a Member of Parliament. Bedi received his early education at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, and later graduated from Government College, Chandigarh. He obtained his law degree from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and enrolled as an Advocate in 1968.

Bedi began his legal career practicing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where he gained extensive experience in various branches of law, including civil, criminal, and constitutional matters. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 1991. His expertise and integrity earned him the appointment as an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1992, and he was subsequently confirmed as a permanent judge in 1994.

Justice Bedi served in the Punjab and Haryana High Court for over a decade, during which he delivered numerous significant judgments. In 2006, he was elevated to the position of Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. His tenure in Kerala was marked by his commitment to judicial reforms and his efforts to expedite the disposal of pending cases.

In 2007, Justice Bedi was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. During his time on the Supreme Court bench, he was known for his insightful judgments and his dedication to upholding the principles of justice and fairness. He presided over several important cases involving a wide range of legal issues. Justice Bedi retired from the Supreme Court in May 2011, leaving behind a legacy of judicial excellence and integrity. After retirement, he has been involved in various committees and commissions, contributing his expertise to matters of public importance.
