Kiran Bedi - A Lifestory

In India, there is a person known for being brave and making things better. This person was the first woman to become an officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS). Before that, this person was a good tennis player, showing how focused and strong they were. Born on 09 June 1949, this person did well in school and sports. Before joining the police, they played tennis at a high level. This helped them think smart and not give up, which helped them later in their job. Joining the IPS in 1972, this person quickly became known for new ideas and being brave in policing. People who worked with this person said they always wanted to do what was right and could talk to regular people. They worked on hard problems like drug use and making prisons better. As the head of prisons, this person made many changes in Tihar Jail, and won an award in 1994 called the Ramon Magsaysay Award. Besides their job, this person is known for working with India Vision Foundation, which helps make prisons better, stops drug use, and helps the police work with the community. This person always wants to make India a better place. They once said they want to be remembered as someone who did their job.
