Narendra Hirwani, a name synonymous with a meteoric rise in Indian cricket, carved his niche as a rightarm legspin bowler. He burst onto the international scene in 1988, making a sensational debut against the West Indies in Madras. In that memorable Test match, he bamboozled the formidable West Indian batting lineup, claiming a remarkable 8 wickets in each innings, setting a world record for the most wickets taken by a bowler on debut. This feat instantly catapulted him to national stardom and raised immense expectations for his future in Indian cricket.

Following his dazzling debut, Hirwani became a regular feature in the Indian Test squad. He possessed a classical legspinner's action, relying on flight, turn, and deception to outwit batsmen.
