Radha Kar - A Lifestory
Compassion In Practice, Healing Hearts, Shaping A Healthier India

Someone was more than just a doctor; they were a light of hope and kindness in India during the 1800s and 1900s. Their life, like a happy movie, shows how strong hard work and helping others can be. They didn't just do medicine; they made a lasting impact of caring for those in need. Born in 1852, they started a journey that would change healthcare in Bengal. After getting their medical degree from Calcutta Medical College, they knew the poor really needed medical help that they could get to. This made them want to start the Calcutta Medical School and Hospital in 1886, which was later called R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. People still say that name with respect and thanks. Their coworkers often said they were always committed and could get others excited. They thought, "Helping people is helping God," and that's how they lived. They didn't just treat sicknesses; they made communities better by giving medical help, education, and power. They helped so much that they are often called one of the first modern doctors in India. Their story reminds us that even when things are very hard, one person's hard work can change the world and inspire people for years to come. They died in 1918.
