Rajendra Lahiri, a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement, was a revolutionary known for his unwavering dedication and participation in acts of defiance against British rule. Born in Mohanpur, Pabna District of Bengal Presidency, British India (now in Bangladesh), his early life was marked by a growing sense of nationalism. He was deeply influenced by the prevailing political climate and the desire to liberate India from colonial oppression. Lahiri became actively involved in revolutionary activities, aligning himself with groups advocating for complete independence.

His commitment led him to join the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), a revolutionary organization aiming to establish a republic in India through armed struggle. Lahiri played a crucial role in the HRA's activities, demonstrating his courage and organizational skills. He is most notably remembered for his involvement in the Kakori train robbery in 1925. This daring act was aimed at acquiring funds to support the HRA's revolutionary activities. The robbery involved looting a train carrying government treasury near Kakori, a town near Lucknow.

Following the Kakori incident, British authorities launched a massive crackdown, arresting numerous revolutionaries including Lahiri. He was subsequently tried and sentenced to death for his involvement in the robbery and conspiracy against the British government. Despite facing immense pressure and the prospect of execution, Lahiri remained steadfast in his beliefs and refused to compromise his principles. He was hanged on December 17, 1927, in Gonda Jail. Rajendra Lahiri's sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the cause of Indian independence continue to inspire generations. He is remembered as a martyr and a symbol of resistance against colonial rule.
