Ramkrishan Bishwas - A Lifestory

lifestory

Ramkrishan Bishwas, also known as Ramakrishna Biswas, was a revolutionary figure in the Indian independence movement. Born in 1910 in the village of Borokasta in Chittagong (now in Bangladesh), he was drawn to revolutionary ideals from a young age. He became involved with the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), a revolutionary organization dedicated to achieving Indian independence through armed struggle. Bishwas's commitment to the cause deepened after witnessing the injustices and oppression inflicted upon the Indian people by the British colonial regime.

His most notable act was his involvement in the assassination attempt on Police Inspector General Lowman in 1931. The revolutionaries believed Lowman was responsible for the torture and death of several freedom fighters. Bishwas, along with his comrade Dinesh Chandra Majumdar, carried out the attack at the Medical School Hospital in Dhaka. However, the attempt resulted in the accidental killing of a police officer named Tarini Mukherjee, while Lowman was injured.

Following the incident, Bishwas and Majumdar were apprehended by the British authorities. During his trial, Bishwas bravely defended his actions, asserting his belief in the necessity of armed resistance to achieve liberation. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to death. Ramkrishan Bishwas was hanged on August 4, 1931, at the Alipore Central Jail in Calcutta. His sacrifice and unwavering dedication to the cause of Indian independence made him a martyr and an inspiration to future generations of freedom fighters. He remains a symbol of courage and selflessness in the struggle against colonial rule.
