Rash Behari Bose was a prominent Indian revolutionary who played a pivotal role in the Indian independence movement. Born on May 25, 1886, in Subaldaha, West Bengal, he received his early education in Chandannagar and later pursued medical studies, although he did not complete them. Bose became deeply involved in revolutionary activities against British rule, influenced by the prevailing nationalist sentiments of the time. He joined secret societies and actively participated in planning armed uprisings to overthrow British authority.

His involvement in the Delhi Conspiracy Case of 1912, an attempt to assassinate Lord Hardinge, the then Viceroy of India, forced him to go into hiding. Evading capture, he eventually escaped to Japan in 1915, where he sought political asylum. In Japan, Bose continued his efforts to garner support for the Indian independence cause. He established connections with influential Japanese figures and worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the plight of India under British rule. He married Toshiko Soma, the daughter of his Japanese hosts, and became a naturalized Japanese citizen.

During World War II, Bose played a crucial role in organizing the Indian Independence League and later, the Indian National Army (INA). He initially led the INA, which comprised Indian prisoners of war and expatriates, with the aim of liberating India from British control. Although he later handed over the leadership of the INA to Subhas Chandra Bose, Rash Behari Bose remained a guiding force behind the movement. His efforts to mobilize support for Indian independence from foreign soil were instrumental in shaping the course of the freedom struggle. Rash Behari Bose passed away in Tokyo, Japan, on January 21, 1945, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication to the cause of Indian independence.
