Satish Kumar - A Lifestory
Indian Boxing'S Relentless Force: Power, Precision, And Unwavering Spirit

Satish Kumar is a prominent figure known for his unwavering commitment to peace, ecology, and holistic living. Born in India in 1936, his early life was marked by a profound spiritual awakening. At the young age of nine, he renounced the world to join the Jain monastic order, seeking enlightenment and liberation. However, after several years, he felt a calling to engage more actively with the world and left the monastic life. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Kumar embarked on an 8,000mile peace walk from India to America, without any money, relying solely on the kindness of strangers. This transformative journey, undertaken in the early 1960s, involved visiting the capitals of the thennuclear powers, advocating for disarmament and global peace.
Upon settling in England, Kumar became deeply involved in environmental activism. He cofounded Schumacher College, an international center for ecological studies, named after the author of "Small Is Beautiful," a book that profoundly influenced his thinking. At Schumacher College, he has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum and fostering a holistic approach to education, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all things. He also served as the editor of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine for over 40 years, transforming it into a leading voice for environmental and social justice. Through his writings, lectures, and activism, Satish Kumar continues to inspire individuals and communities worldwide to embrace sustainable living, mindful consumption, and a deep respect for the Earth. He champions a philosophy of "soil, soul, society," emphasizing the importance of nurturing the land, cultivating inner peace, and building just and equitable communities.
