Sushila Chanu, born on February 25, 1992, in Manipur, India, is a highly accomplished field hockey player known for her leadership, resilience, and versatility. She began her journey in hockey at a young age, influenced by the sport's strong presence in Manipur, and made her debut for the Indian national team at just 17. Over her career, she earned more than 150 international caps and became the team's captain, leading by example with her calm and tactical approach. Sushila faced challenges, including a significant knee injury, but her determination and recovery became a hallmark of her career. As a role model for women in sports, she inspired many, especially young girls in Manipur, to pursue field hockey. Her leadership was crucial in the Indian team’s successes, such as securing a silver medal at the 2014 Asian Games and winning the 2017 Asia Cup.
