Vivan Sundaram was a prominent Indian contemporary artist whose career spanned several decades and encompassed a diverse range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and video art. Born in Shimla in 1943, he came from a family deeply rooted in Indian intellectual and artistic circles; his mother was the sister of the renowned artist Amrita SherGil. Sundaram received his formal art education at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda, and later at the Slade School of Fine Art in London.
