He attended his initial schooling from St. Antony’s Lower Primary School in Kizhakkambalam. Later, he studied at St. Joseph’s High School in Kizhakkambalam, where he first developed an interest in sports, initially focusing on athletics before shifting his focus to field hockey.
Initially, he trained as a sprinter and pursued long jump and volleyball.
At the age of 12, he joined GV Raja Sports School in Thiruvananthapuram, where his coach recommended goalkeeping. Under hockey coach Jayakumar, he transitioned to field hockey and played in the Nehru Cup.
After being part of the Indian team for six years and frequently losing his place to senior goalkeepers Adrian D’Souza and Bharat Chettri, he became a regular member in 2011.
His breakthrough came with a match-winning performance in the “Asian Champions Trophy Final” in Ordos City, China, where he saved two penalty strokes against Pakistan.
In the inaugural season of the “Hockey India League 2013,” Sreejesh was bought by the “Mumbai Magicians” and played two seasons with them.
In 2014 he was acquired by Uttar Pradesh and was with them till the 2015 season.
Sreejesh also became the second Indian to win the “World Athlete of the Year” award.
