Residents of Kalya and nearby Beit HaArava ultimately fled by boat on 20 May 1948. Yet, Kalya was rebuilt in 1968 after the Six-Day War, standing as a testament to resilience and the enduring spirit of its people.

Kalya's name is also a Hebrew acronym for "קם לתחייה ים המוות" (Kam Litkhiya Yam HaMavet), which translates to "The Dead Sea has returned to life".
