Aaliyah was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1971. She was the daughter of R&B singer/songwriter/producer Barry White and actress/singer Tina Turner. Aaliyah released her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing But a Number, in 1994. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and produced the hit singles 'At Your Best (You Are Love)' and 'I Believe in You.' Aaliyah's second album, Aaliyah, was released in 2001 and featured the hit singles 'Rock the Boat' and 'More Than a Woman.' Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001, at the age of 22.
