Description:
The Aam Aadmi Party, also known as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or the Common Man's Party, is a political party in India founded on 28 October 2012 by Arvind Kejriwal. The party is a national political party with a declared goal of 'political and social reforms in India through participatory democracy'. The party is a part of the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). The party emerged from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) civil society movement, which was started on 28 October 2012. The movement was started with the intention of challenging the then ruling Indian National Congress (INC) in the 2013 Delhi state elections. The party won a majority of the seats in the Delhi state assembly, making it the first political party in India to do so. The AAP has since been national in scope, and has contested elections in other states of India, including the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, in which it won three seats. The AAP is currently the only political party in India to have done so. The AAP is a member of the International Democrat Union and the Progressive Alliance.
