The Aawachats are a Malay Muslim community originating from the state of Kedah in southern Malaysia. They are a sub-group of the larger Arakanese community. They are also known as the Aawachat-Kedah, Aawachat-Lah, Aawachat-Pahang, or Aawachat-Sarawak. The Aawachats are believed to have immigrated to Kedah in the late 19th century. They are predominantly rice farmers, and are also involved in the timber and rubber industries. The Aawachat community is divided into three main divisions: the Aawachat-Kedah, the Aawachat-Lah, and the Aawachat-Pahang.
