They are a agricultural community and are mainly engaged in the cultivation of paddy, cotton and groundnuts. They are also involved in the manufacture of mats, baskets, pots and other articles of pottery. The Alawalapati are a proud and independent people and maintain their own customs and traditions. They are a polygamous community and the marriages are arranged by the parents. The Alawalapati people are Hindus and are followers of the Hindu religion. They speak the Telugu language.
