MALAPURAM is a town and a municipality in Thiruvananthapuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. The town is located on the banks of the Periyar River. The municipality covers an area of and had a population of 147,811 in 2011. Malapuram is one of the oldest towns in Kerala. The town is known for its traditional craftsmanship in silk and cotton fabrics, silver work, wood carving and pottery. The town is also known for its mosques, temples and churches.
