The word 'Anjalagan' is derived from the Tamil word 'Anjal' meaning 'ring' or 'bracelet'. The word may refer to either of two clans from the Tamil Nadu region in southern India: the Anjalagans or the Anjalar. The Anjalagans are a Brahmin caste and are found mainly in the districts of Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, and Cuddalore. The Anjalar are a Scheduled Caste and are found mainly in the districts of Kumbakonam and Thanjavur.
