Description:
Bhagat Singh was born on February 14, 1907, in the village of Sukhdevi in the Punjab province of British India. He was the son of a farmer and was educated at a local school. In 1915, at the age of 13, he was arrested for protesting British rule and was sentenced to five years in prison. While in prison, he began to read revolutionary literature and became involved in the underground movement against British rule. In 1929, he was released from prison and traveled to the Soviet Union to study communism. He returned to India in 1933 and was arrested again for his involvement in the anti-British movement. He was sentenced to death in 1935, but was later released after a political exchange with the British government. In 1940, he was arrested again and sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the anti-British movement. He was released in 1945 and died in 1966.
