Bajirao Mhaque (15 September 1628 – 17 May 1697), also known as Bajirao II, was an Indian Maratha general and ruler who played a pivotal role in the history of the Maratha Empire. He was the son of Maratha general Shivaji and the father of Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Bajirao was born on 15 September 1628 in the village of Bajirao, in present-day Raigad district, Maharashtra. He was the son of Maratha general Shivaji and the father of Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He rose to prominence during the reign of his father, who was the ruler of a fragmented Maratha kingdom. Bajirao successfully unified most of the Maratha territory and emerged as one of the most powerful Maratha leaders. He played a pivotal role in the history of the Maratha Empire, which became one of the largest and most powerful empires in India. Bajirao was killed in battle at the Battle of Panipat on 17 May 1697. He is considered a martyr by the Maratha people and his memory is still revered.
