Bommalapur is a town and a municipality in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is located in the north-western region of the state. Bommalapur is also known as the 'City of Flowers'. The town is named after the Bommanahalli Palace, which was built by the Bommana dynasty in the 16th century. The palace was destroyed by the Maratha general Mahadaji Shinde in 1761. Bommalapur has a long and varied history. It is mentioned in the Mahabharata as one of the five capitals of the Pandavas. The town was also the site of the Battle of Waghad in 1298 between the Delhi Sultanate and the Rajput Chieftains of Mewar. The town is known for its floral gardens, which are considered some of the best in the country. The gardens are home to a variety of flowers, including orchids, roses, jasmine, and lilies. There are a number of customs and traditions that are associated with Bommalapur. One of the most popular traditions is the 'Dahi Handi' festival, which is celebrated during the month of January. During this festival, people gather together to make a giant dish of yoghurt and milk pudding called 'dahi'. They then throw the mixture at each other, using their hands and arms as weapons.
