Description:
BUKKAPATNAM is derived from the Telugu word bukkapatnam, meaning 'mouth of the river'. The town was originally known as Venkatagiri, after the presiding deity of a temple located in the area. The town was renamed Bukkapatnam in 1614 by the Vijayanagar emperor Krishnadevaraya. Bukkapatnam is located on the banks of the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh. The town is known for its textile and handloom industries.
