Description:
The Chadhalavad dynasty was a royal dynasty in the Deccan region of southern India that ruled from c. 1075 to 1336. The dynasty is also known as the Chalukya dynasty after the first ruler of the dynasty, Chalukya Vikramaditya. The dynasty was founded by the Chalukya dynasty king Vikramaditya who, after the death of his father, Chalukya Jayasimha, became the ruler of the Chalukya dynasty. Vikramaditya's mother was the princess of the Kalinga dynasty. Vikramaditya ruled from Vatapi in the Deccan region. He defeated the Chola king Rajaraja I and became the most powerful king in southern India. Vikramaditya's son, Chalukya Someshvara I, became the next ruler of the dynasty. The Chalukya dynasty reached its peak under the rule of Chalukya Someshvara I. He expanded the kingdom into present-day Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The Chalukya dynasty declined in power after the death of Chalukya Someshvara I. The Chalukya dynasty was replaced by the Rashtrakuta dynasty in the 13th century.
