The Chagalant people are an indigenous people of the eastern slopes of the Andes in Peru. They are also known as the Chagalantes, the Chagalantes de la Raya, and the Chimú. Their language, Chagalante, is a member of the Andean branch of the Quechua family. The Chagalantes are traditionally farmers and herders who live in small villages scattered throughout the eastern slopes of the Andes. They are known for their colorful traditional clothing and their distinctive musical instruments, the quena and the charango.
