The Chamuwabai are a Tamil-speaking community originating from the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, India. They are also known as Chamuwabaiyar and Chamuwabaiyar Kovil. The Chamuwabaiyar are a Scheduled Tribe and are believed to be the descendants of the ancient Tamil people who migrated to the Nilgiris from the south. The Chamuwabaiyar are a community of weavers and have their own traditional textile industry. They are also known for their musical traditions, which include the playing of the kudi, the veena, and the thavil.
