The Chapalauotas are an indigenous people of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. They are a Tupi-Guarani people, and are also known as the Chapaluotas, Chapaluotas da Silva, and Chapaluotas de Castro. They speak the Chapaluota language. The Chapalauotas are thought to have originated in the region of the Upper Paraná River, in the present-day state of Mato Grosso. They migrated southward around the 16th century, and settled in the state of Mato Grosso. They are currently concentrated in the municipalities of Chapada dos Guimarães, Cuiabá, Corumbá, and São José do Rio Preto. The Chapaluotas are a traditional people, and are known for their agriculture, hunting, and fishing. They are also known for their handcrafted goods, such as pottery, textiles, and woodwork. The Chapaluota language is spoken by the Chapalauotas, and is classified as a Tupi-Guarani language.
