History:

The Chettiar community of India is believed to have originated in the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu. The Chettiars were originally traders and financiers who were involved in the spice trade and moneylending.
The Chettiars are believed to have migrated from the Coromandel Coast of South India to the eastern coast of Tamil Nadu in the 19th century. The Chettiars were well-known for their business acumen and financial prowess and they soon established themselves as successful traders and moneylenders.

The Chettiars are a very traditional community and they follow the customs and practices of the Hindu religion. They observe all the major Hindu festivals such as Diwali, Pongal, and Navaratri. Chettiars are known for their hospitality and their love for music and dance.
Chettiars are known for their elaborate wedding ceremonies. The wedding ceremonies involve many rituals and customs which are followed strictly. The bride and groom exchange garlands, and the groom ties a sacred thread around the bride’s neck.
The Chettiars have many sub-sects and sub-castes. The most common sub-castes are the Nattukottai Chettiars, the Nagarathar Chettiars, and the Maruthu Chettiars. Each sub-caste has its own customs and traditions.
