The Cheranthian people are a people of Kerala, India. They are a Scheduled Tribe and are mainly concentrated in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Alappuzha. They are also found in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu. The Cheranthian people are a sub-group of the Ezhava community. The Cheranthian people are believed to be the descendants of the ancient Cholan people. They are believed to have migrated to Kerala from the Middle East about 2,000 years ago. They are believed to have settled in the present-day districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Alappuzha. The Cheranthian people are a Hindu community. They practise a mixture of Hindu and Christian beliefs. The Cheranthian people are mainly engaged in agriculture. They are also involved in the manufacture of handicrafts.
