The ChikkanaJi people are a Native American tribe who reside in Oklahoma. They are of Kiowa and Apache descent. The ChikkanaJi are a federally recognized tribe and are headquartered in Muskogee. Their traditional territory included the present-day states of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. In the early 1800s, the ChikkanaJi were forced to move to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma) due to encroachment by white settlers. The tribe has a strong traditional culture and is known for its beadwork, pottery, and weaving. The ChikkanaJi speak the ChikkanaJi language, a Kiowa- Apache language. There are several variations of the ChikkanaJi name, including ChikkanaJi, ChikkanaJi Oyate, ChikkanaJi Nation, and ChikkanaJi Band.
