Dachau is a town in southern Germany, located on the upper reaches of the Danube River. The town was founded in 1253 and grew to become a major trade center on the Via Regia, the main trade route between Bavaria and Austria. After the Thirty Years' War, the town declined, but began to revive in the 19th century with the construction of the railway. Today, Dachau is a popular tourist destination and is home to a number of museums.
