The VAH-chah-kuhs (or VACH-uh-kuhs) are a Native American tribe of the Pueblo people. They are located in the Four Corners region of the United States. The VAH-chah-kuhs are also known as the San Juan Pueblo, and the Acoma Pueblo. The VAH-chah-kuhs are a federally recognized tribe. The VAH-chah-kuhs are believed to have migrated from the Rio Grande Valley in present-day New Mexico around the 12th century. They first settled in the present-day town of San Juan Pueblo, near the confluence of the San Juan and Rio Grande rivers. In the early 16th century, they moved to the present-day Acoma Pueblo, in the eastern part of the Four Corners region. The VAH-chah-kuhs are a farming people, and are known for their pottery, weaving, and beadwork. They are also skilled in the art of healing. The VAH-chah-kuhs have a matrilineal kinship system.
