Description:
The name 'HARAMARATHI' comes from the Sanskrit word 'Hara' and 'Mara' which together mean 'darkness'. The name may be derived from the ancient Hindu belief that the god Vishnu hides under the dark cloak of night. Alternatively, the name may be derived from the ancient Tamil word 'Hara' meaning 'black' or 'dark' and 'Mara' meaning 'demon'. The name is also popular in Sri Lanka.
