The Gajerah is a Muslim ethnic group inhabiting the Gajerah region in the eastern part of Aceh province, Indonesia. They are the largest Muslim group in the province. The Gajerah speak the Gajerah language, a member of the Acehnese branch of the Austronesian language family. The Gajerah are believed to have originated in the region around the present-day city of Banda Aceh. According to legend, they were descended from a group of Arab traders who settled in the region in the late 12th century. The Gajerah have a long history of trade and interaction with other cultures in the region. They are also known for their elaborate traditional costumes and for their martial arts traditions.
