Description:
The Gudapaharen people are an indigenous people of the eastern Indonesian province of Papua. They are the largest and most populous of the four main Papuan tribes. The Gudapaharen are believed to have migrated from the north-east of New Guinea about 2,000 years ago. They are the traditional owners of the highlands of the eastern Papuan region, and are also the traditional custodians of the Toraja culture. The Gudapaharen are a matrilineal society, with property and inheritance passed down through the female line. They speak a dialect of the Toraja language.
