GULAB, Gulab Singh (1911-1996) Gulab Singh was born in 1911 in the village of Majitha, in the Majitha district of the Punjab. He was the son of a farmer and was educated in the local school. In 1934, he married Gurdev Kaur and they had four children. In 1941, Gulab Singh enlisted in the Indian Army and served in the British Indian Army during World War II. He was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery in combat. After the war, he returned to his farm in the Majitha district. In the early 1960s, Gulab Singh began to experience difficulty hearing and seeing. He was diagnosed with macular degeneration and was given just a few years to live. However, with the help of a local doctor, he was able to continue to work and support his family. In 1996, Gulab Singh died at the age of 86. He is remembered for his bravery in combat and his contributions to the Indian Army. He is also remembered for his warm and friendly personality and his love of farming.
