History:

Jangam is a Hindu caste found mainly in the southern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The term Jangam is derived from the Sanskrit word Jangama, which means 'moving'. The Jangams are a sub-caste of the larger Shaivite Hindu community.
The Jangams are believed to have originated in the 11th century, when a group of Shaivite Brahmin priests migrated to the Deccan Plateau from the north. They adopted the local customs and language and became known as the Jangams. Over the centuries, the Jangams have spread throughout southern India and are now found in many parts of the country.

The Telugu Jangams are the largest group, and are mostly found in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Kannada Jangams are found in Karnataka, and the Tamil Jangams are found in Tamil Nadu.
