Origin and History of THIKKARAPU

History:

Thikkara is an ancient Tamil Brahmin caste from the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The name is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Thikara’, which means ‘skilled’.
The Thikkara community is believed to have originated from the Chola dynasty, which was the most prominent dynasty in the region during the medieval period. During this period, the Thikkara Brahmins were appointed as administrators and were responsible for managing the affairs of the kingdom.

Description:

The Thikkara community has its own unique culture, which includes traditional festivals, customs and rituals. The most important festival celebrated by the community is Pongal, which marks the start of the harvest season. Other important festivals include Diwali, Navratri and other religious festivals.
The Thikkara community follows a strict code of conduct, which includes the practice of vegetarianism and abstinence from alcohol and other intoxicants. The community also follows the practice of arranged marriages and dowry system.
The Thikkara community is divided into several subgroups, such as the Thikkara Vellalar, Thikkara Kavuthu, Thikkara Vanniyar and Thikkara Gounder. Each subgroup has its own distinct customs and traditions.
