After his release from prison, Gandhiji served as the first Prime Minister of India from 1947 to 1948. Gandhiji died on January 20, 1948, in New Delhi. Gandhiji was a devout Hindu and a strong supporter of India's traditional culture and customs. He is also known for his philosophy of non-violence and for his work in promoting Hinduism as a religion. Gandhiji's name is pronounced 'gand-hee.'
