Description:
Babar, the lionhearted Babar was born in the forests of India in 1582. He was the son of a lion tamer and grew up with the animals. When he was just 10 years old, Babar was captured by the Mughal emperor Akbar and taken to his court. Akbar was so impressed by Babar's bravery and strength that he made him his favorite lion tamer. Babar was famous for his daring stunts. He once jumped out of the emperor's palace window to escape a hungry lion. And he once fought a lion single-handedly to protect a herd of cows. Babar's popularity grew so much that he was often called upon to perform at royal ceremonies. In 1628, he was sent on a diplomatic mission to Persia. On his way back, he was captured by the Portuguese and taken to their colony in India. Babar spent the rest of his life performing in various countries around the world. He died in 1707. Babar's story is told in the animated movie 'The Lion King' (1994). Babar's name is pronounced 'bab-ar'.
